This massive deck girder bridge crosses the North Raccoon River near Jefferson.
Originally built in 1893, the bridge originally featured two stone arches on either side, along with three 140 foot long Lattice Deck Trusses.
By 1929, the deck trusses were becoming too light for modern traffic. As a result, they were replaced with a series of six deck girders, set onto steel towers, concrete bases and the original stone approaches and piers.
Overall, this bridge appears to be in good condition. The arches have been reinforced. It is unknown if the old truss was reused at another location, although it seems quite possible.
